Latin Dance Shoe Care

A little care keeps your favorite pair ready for the next dance night.

For suede-style Latin soles: wear on clean, dry indoor dance floors. Change into everyday shoes before heading outside.

Brush the soles gently

Brush only when needed—and only when the soles are completely dry. Use a dance shoe sole brush suitable for your pair.

Four Dana shoe care illustrations: inspect the dry sole, brush with short strokes, avoid edges and seams, then stop and check.
  1. Check when dry. Look for dust, dirt or flattened patches. Support the heel over a towel, with fingers away from the brush path.
  2. Use short, gentle strokes. Work lightly in one direction. You do not need to scrub hard.
  3. Stay on the suede. Keep the brush away from edges, stitching, straps and heel tips.
  4. Stop and check. A few passes may be enough. Stop if fibers pull out heavily or an edge lifts.

Dust the outside

Gently lift surface dust with a soft, dry cloth. Never use the sole brush on satin, leather or decorative details. Ask Yami before treating a stubborn stain.

Dry, then store

Dana shoes illustrating blotting a damp sole, air drying at room temperature and packing only when fully dry.
  1. Blot only if damp. Press a clean, dry towel against the damp area. Do not rub, soak or machine wash.
  2. Let them breathe. Open the straps and air out after dancing. Keep away from heaters and direct sun. Let damp shoes dry completely before brushing or wearing.
  3. Pack when fully dry. Use a breathable shoe bag in a cool, dry place. Give straps room and keep dirty travel shoes separate.

Skip oils, polish and quick-grip treatments on the soles. Check for peeling soles, loose straps and worn heel tips; have damage assessed before dancing again.
