As the name implies, social dancing is a social event where people dress up, dance, meet new people, keep up with old ones, and generally have a good time. During the COVID-19 pandemic, however, many studios and events stopped social dances. This would go on for two years!

The New Year brings hope that the worst of the pandemic is behind us now. But you never really know! If you’re still wary of going out and joining social dance events because of COVID, you’re not alone. Thankfully, you can always practice at home with your Yami dance shoes!

And speaking of practicing at home, you can also work out in the privacy of your own home - no membership needed. In these uncertain times, it’s nice to know that we could live our best lives without spending more than we should!

The thing is, you don’t need a lot of space to stay fit. These workouts are not only fun, but they’ll also keep your mental health in check. Here are fun exercises to try at home:

Zumba: If you love attending dance classes, then you’ll love Zumba! This workout consists of aerobic dance moves that are executed in time with the music. You don’t have to be a great dancer for Zumba; it’s incredibly beginner-friendly. You will love dancing to fun, fast tunes while also toning and strengthening your muscles. Go ahead and play your favorite tracks and add your choreography into your routine. Have fun while getting fit with Zumba!

Calisthenics: An oldie but still a goodie! Calesthetics consist of different body movements that target major muscle groups. We’re talking about gentle stretching, swinging of the arms and legs, pushing, and sometimes, running! Doing calisthenics exercises regularly boosts blood circulation while improving strength, flexibility, balance, agility, and coordination.

Yoga: Yoga is an ancient practice of bringing harmony between the mind and body through physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation to promote mental and physical well-being. A few minutes of yoga exercises help improve muscle flexibility and strength! It can also boost your metabolic rate for faster, healthy weight loss! If you’ve been feeling stressed or anxious by living in the new normal, doing yoga at least once a day will alleviate stress and improve mental health.

Morning Stretches: Start your day right by performing a series of stretch exercises! Gentle stretching is an excellent way to prep the muscles for an intense workout. Or, if you’re not in the mood for intense activity, stretching is enough to boost flexibility. Do stretching exercises in the AM to feel energized!

Pilates: This is a workout that improves body alignment, breathing, core strength, coordination, stability, and balance. Doing Pilates exercises regularly will improve muscle strength, flexibility, and stamina. Some pilates exercises need gym equipment, but plenty of moves do not require equipment or experience to practice.

HIIT: If you LOVE intense workout routines, then you can’t go wrong with HIIT or high-intensity interval training! This workout involves a series of intense anaerobic exercises with recovery periods in between. If you want to work on your endurance, metabolism, strength, and speed, this is the workout for you. You’ll be drenched in sweat in no time at all. You will love the challenges that a HIIT program offers but be sure to take breaks in between!

Circuit Training: Circuit training is a type of body conditioning workout consisting of endurance training, resistance training, high-intensity aerobics, and exercises that are performed one after another with varying breaks in between. The workouts target different muscle groups and are executed repeatedly to build strength, endurance and promote better cardiovascular fitness.

Cardio Workout: No need for a treadmill to get the heart pumping! There are loads of no-equipment activities that you can do to get the heart rate going. Jumping jacks, pushups, burpees, running in places, squat jumps, and lateral lunges are excellent cardio exercises to build endurance. Blast your favorite tunes while doing your cardio to motivate yourself to move!

As you can see, there are so many exercises that you can do at home to stay fit while on lockdown. During this time, you can practice dancing too! Wear your favorite Yami dance shoes as you practice, so you’re ready to own the dance floor by the time social dance events are happening again! Check out our newest collection here!
